The Rainforest Alliance is an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers.
Project Summary
Rainforest Alliance and partner organizations Fundación Natura in Colombia (FNC), and Conservación y Desarrollo in Ecuador (CyD) are working jointly to execute the USAID-funded project Initiative for Conservation in the Andean Amazon (ICAA) to address priority threats and opportunities in private lands, extractive reserves, buffer zones of protected areas, and indigenous lands in the Western Amazon of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. The consortium will use sustainable markets and certification for timber and wood products, Brazil nuts, coffee, cocoa, and tourism to conserve biodiversity and natural resources in this region, and has identified organizations that serve hundreds of farmers, foresters, lodge owners, or multiple communities as beneficiaries in select, biodiversity-rich target sites.
Position Summary
The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for providing general administrative support to the Sustainable Tourism component of the ICAA Project. S/he will provide direct support to the Technical Liaison (South America).
Responsibilities
- Assist the Technical Liaison (South America) collect information and finalize reports for the Rainforest Alliance and donors;
- Develop and maintain paper and electronic filing and retrieval systems;
- Manage the calendar for the Technical Liaison (South America);
- Provide administrative support for events, workshops, trips and meetings;
- Prepare and maintain records of consulting agreements; record consultant deliverables and payments;
- Prepare Consulting Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding based on the terms of reference provided by the supervisor;
- Perform administrative tasks as needed such as copying, mailing, managing phone logs, and distributing materials to staff and consultants;
- Assist with the completion of payment requests and travel advances;
- Assist with Spanish/English translation of documents;
- Draft letters and other communications; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- University degree;
- 1 - 2 years related professional experience;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English/Spanish;
- Demonstrated reliability regarding attendance and work performance;
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills to deal with a diverse clientele and staff;
- Ability to work within a team structure as well as independently, be creative, take initiative and be attentive to detail;
- Courteous and professional demeanor with experience providing customer service;
- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel and Outlook);
- Flexibility and ability to work in a fast-paced environment; and
- Ability and willingness to travel within the country as needed.
Salary
