Stop Deforestation -- Stop Climate Change!

Shrinking arctic ice. Increased tropical cyclone activity. Severe droughts. Scientists say we’re already beginning to experience the effects of climate change -- but it’s not too late to change the course. For more than 20 years, the Rainforest Alliance has been working to curb deforestation, responsible for 20 percent of all global greenhouse gas emissions. That’s more than the emissions from trains, planes and automobiles combined.

World Tourism Day: Tips to Celebrate Sustainably

Each year, more than 900 million travelers hit the road, seas, skies and rails in search of new adventures, relaxing getaways and business opportunities. Naturally, that travel has a huge impact on local communities, economies and the environment. For nearly three decades, the United Nation's World Tourism Organization has recognized the importance of business and leisure travel with World Tourism Day, celebrated annually on September 27. This year, commemorate the holiday by committing to responsible travel choices.

Report from Kenya -- Part One

In 2007, the Rainforest Alliance launched its tea certification program in Kenya. The first certified farm was Kericho, an estate in Kenya owned by Unilever that supplies the Lipton and PG Tips brands. Recently, Rainforest Alliance president Tensie Whelan traveled to Kenya to attend a meeting of the Unilever Sustainable Agriculture Advisory Board, visit some of Kenya's stunning national parks and see a few of the country's flower farms.

The Rainforest Alliance, Explorandes & Whole Travel: Teaming Up to Promote Sustainable Tourism in Peru

Recently, a small group of tourism professionals spent a day hiking in the stunning Peruvian Andes. Together, the three are now working to raise awareness in Peru among travelers and tourism enterprises about the fiscal and ethical benefits of sustainable tourism.
