February 2008
2.22.2008 A Few Words from Tensie Whelan, Rainforest Alliance President Tensie Whelan has held a wide variety of jobs in her career -- reporter, editor, consultant, nonprofit executive -- with a common theme: passionate activism on behalf of the environment. Whelan has been involved with the Rainforest Alliance since 1990, first as a board member and later as a consultant, becoming executive director in 2000 and president in 2007. 2.15.2008 Walter Smith Reports from Oceania -- Part II Walter Smith, lead auditor and senior technical specialist for the Rainforest Alliance's SmartWood program, continues to recount the details of his recent trip to Papua New Guinea for the annual audit of a Japanese forestry company. 2.8.2008 Walter Smith Reports from Oceania -- Part I Walter Smith is the lead auditor and senior technical specialist for the Rainforest Alliance's SmartWood program. His demanding position takes him to an array of stunning -- and sometimes remote -- locations. Lucky for us, Walter often sends back fascinating, wacky and truly eye-opening travelogues. Here, he describes the bumpy start of his trip to Papua, New Guinea where he audited a Japanese forestry company. 2.4.2008 Celebrate 2008: The Year of the Frog! Here at the Rainforest Alliance, frogs are especially close to our hearts. The frog is our unofficial mascot and we feature it prominently on our Rainforest Alliance Certified seal. Considering our connection to the frog, it's only natural that we whole-heartedly support Amphibian Ark's (AArk) global campaign to make 2008 the "Year of the Frog." No additional blog entries were posted during the month. |
