A Young Supporter's "Rainforest Fun Day" Benefits the Rainforest Alliance

Rainforest Fundraiser

A few months ago, we were contacted by Michael Andrews, whose son Tyler -- already a passionate environmentalist at the age of 11 -- was looking to host a fundraiser for the Rainforest Alliance.

Naturally, we were excited to hear about Tyler's plans and wanted to help in any way we could. They didn't need much from our end, though -- just educational material and an assortment of rainforest-related goodies. The actual event was entirely the product of the Andrews family's hard work and dedication.

Their efforts paid off on "Rainforest Fun Day," an afternoon of education and entertainment at McCook Park in East Lyme, CT. It just so happens that the park sits on land donated to the city of East Lyme by the family of Tensie Whelan, executive director of the Rainforest Alliance. Certainly a fitting location for the fun affair!

The family-friendly event included playful attractions like a dunk tank, an aquatic touch tank, face painting and a moon walk. There were also informative displays highlighting the importance of fire safety, automobile safety and understanding the effects of noise and air pollution. Tasty refreshments including clam chowder, apple pie and a variety of beverages were available for sale.

All in all, the event was quite a success! Tyler raised more than $1,100 for the Rainforest Alliance, educating and entertaining his family and friends in the process.
