Rainforest Alliance

The afforestation plantation project area 109.6 hectares of abandoned land in the metropolitan Montreal area. Of this, 83.4 hectares comprise the eligible project area. Most of the land was previously cultivated, with the exception of 5 ha within an open-pit mine. CO2 Environnement has engaged the landowners of the 5 sites in contracts which intends to grant CO2 Environnement Inc. rights to the carbon credits from each site in exchange for replanting and maintainance of the land for the project duration (50 years). CO2 Environnement has planted all of the sites predominantly with three hardwood species; black spruce, white spruce and jack pine.
