Methodology for Conservation Projects that Avoid Planned Land Use Conversion in Peat Swamp Forests
Avoiding Land-use Conversion on Peat Swamp Forests
Methodology Assessment for use with the Verified Carbon Standard 2007.
The methodology assessed pioneers an approach to quantify the greenhouse gas benefits of avoiding land-use change on peat lands in South East Asia. The methodology will be used by projects seeking validation to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), and was assessed by the Rainforest Alliance to ensure that it conformed to the demands of the VCS. Our methodology assessment report demonstrates that such projects can ensure scientific rigor while handling the inherent uncertainty associated with peat land emissions in order to produce credible, conservative and verifiable emissions reductions.
