This project is designed to promote sustainable development and alleviate pressures on tropical forestlands by establishing natural rubber tree plantations and pursuing Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for responsible forest management. Over 4,942 acres (2,000 hectares) of degraded pastureland will be planted with Hevea brasiliensis spp. (rubber trees) on seven different farms located in the Suchitepéquez and Izabal departments. The reforestation effort is projected to sequester a total of 1,739,855 tCO2e over 42 years, and the revenue derived from the sale of carbon credits will enable the possibility of pursuing FSC certification.
