" The CO2 Neutro Pratigi – Grupo de Projetos de Carbono na APA do Pratigi: Reflorestamento (Pratigi APA Group Reforestation Project) is part of the Pratigi Carbon Neutral Program located in one of the areas of the Integrated Development Program and Sustainable Mosaic of Environmental Protection Areas (APAs) of Southern Bahia, Brazil. The Group Project has the important role of linking biodiversity conservation in the region through the sustainable use of natural resources. The Project aims to develop and implement projects and environmental service programs to leverage resources and financial incentives, generate environmental services (carbon sequestration, water and biodiversity conservation) in the surrounding areas of Southern Bahia.



Small farms with an average size of 15 acres dominate the landscape and due to this landscape dynamic, a Group Project structure was adopted as a strategy with the aim of establishing reforestation activities and to facilitate new areas to become part of the initiative over the next 10 years. The Project will enable mobilization and community awareness regarding the assessment and restoration of environmental services on small properties with a new economic focus on the valuation of environmental assets of the region.


The project’s concepts also hope to serve as a national and international reference that will generate multiple benefits to society and the communities who live there. The project will create a model based on the conservation and production of small properties that will provide options for income generation along with biodiversity conservation benefits. Degraded areas will be restored through forest restoration and agroforestry systems according to the environmental, economic and social priorities.
