Sun Plant Agro Limited (SPA) is a pioneer in commercial plantation activities in the northeastern region of India’s Bihar state. The project will rehabilitate approximately 950 acres (384 hectares) of degraded wasteland by adopting a commercial plantation model using various tree species. The sites are located in districts that are among the most overlooked regions in India with respect to human development. The project is expected to reduce/remove 56,379 tC02e over the course of its 33-year lifetime. It will not lead to any displacement of pre-existing activities because the lands were barren and unused prior to project implementation.
The project’s main goals are to establish and manage commercial timber and Jatropha plantations; sequester CO2 and enhance carbon stocks by planting on barren, degraded lands, generating high-quality reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions that can be measured, monitored, and verified; reclaim degraded lands; promote soil conservation and enhancement and the protection of water sources; and generate employment to increase the economic and social well-being of native rural populations.
