This project, which is also certified to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Forest Management Standard, is reforesting degraded pastureland by planting 40 percent teak (Tectona grandis) and 60 percent native species. The project plans to harvest trees on a 25-year rotation and use low-impact harvesting techniques in order to minimize its impacts on biodiversity. Fifteen percent of the project area has been set aside for conservation, vegetative buffers have been established around watercourses, and wetlands are being conserved. The project, which estimates net CO2 sequestration of 235-261 tCO2e per hectare over the course of its 50-year lifetime, has also generated 200 jobs for local residents to date.
