Kindergarten Lesson Standards

The Rainforest Alliance Learning Site is unique in that it teaches science, math, language arts and social studies essentials while addressing the United States National Standards for Learning. These are the standards addressed in the kindergarten lessons.

Expand or Collapse Lesson 1-- My Forest or the Rainforest?

Life Sciences Standard 6
Understands relationships among organisms and their physical environment.

Level I (Grade K - 2)

Knows that living things are found almost everywhere in the world and that distinct environments support the life of different types of plants and animals.

Life Sciences Standard 7
Understands biological evolution and the diversity of life.

Level 1 (Grade K - 2)
Knows that there are similarities and differences in the appearance and behavior of plants and animals.

Expand or Collapse Lesson 2 -- How Far Away is a Tropical Rainforest?

Thinking and Reasoning:
- Effectively uses mental process that is based on identifying similarities and differences.

Topic 1: Uses a variety of strategies in the problem solving process. (K - 2)
- Uses whole number models (pattern blocks, tiles or other manipulative materials) to represent problems.

Topic 4: Understands and applies basic and advanced properties of the concept of measurement. (K - 2)
- Understands the concept of time and how it is measured.
- Knows process for telling time, counting coins and measuring length, weight and temperature, using basic standard and nonstandard units.

Topic 6: Understands and applies basic and advanced concepts of statistic data analysis. (K - 2)
- Understands that observations about objects or events can be organized and displayed in simple graphs.
