As the world's leading Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) forest management certifier, SmartWood sets the international gold standard for credibility in auditing environmentally and socially responsible forestry.
The Rainforest Alliance's SmartWood program offers a diverse set of certification and verification services. While each of these services has a different focus -- ranging from Forest Stewardship Council certification, to verification of legality, to the management of high conservation value forests -- they all benefit from the rigor and expertise of the SmartWood team.
Forest Stewardship Council Certification:
Forest Management, Controlled Wood and Non-Timber Forest Products certification, including options for group certification and for small and low-intensity managed forests. We also offer the SmartStep Phased Approach to FSC Certification.
Chain-of-Custody (CoC) Certification:
We offer personalized, efficient certification services to companies that process or sell forest products, including sawmills, secondary manufacturers, broker/distributors, wholesalers, retailers, printers and paper merchants.
Our independent third-party verification of timber legality is recognized by Greenpeace International as the top-ranked verification program.
We offer validation and verification services to forest-based carbon projects under a variety of credible standards, including the Chicago Climate Exchange, Plan Vivo and Voluntary Carbon Standard.
Loggers' associations, master logger programs and forest products companies can earn independent, third-party certification system through this program exclusively offered by SmartWood.
Our SmartWood auditors can help identify forests of biological and cultural significance at the local, national and global levels, and then evaluate company practices in protecting those forests.
Operations that purchase and sell reclaimed, recycled and/or salvaged wood products can earn certification through this exclusive SmartWood program.
