Explorandes Perú

| |

Explorandes is a tour operator based in Cusco, Peru’s key point of departure for tourists who want to visit Machu Picchu, Cusco and the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Cusco is a region with many mountain ecosystems, valleys and rainforests. Its diverse population includes ancient cultural groups that have lived in these areas for hundreds of years, as well as new residents and ex-pats who now live in this cosmopolitan city.

Cusco has a very rich history, because it was the capital of the Inca Empire and the second-most important city in the colony after Lima. Its historic center has beautiful colonial architecture and stunning vestiges of Inca infrastructure. Today, it has nearly one million inhabitants and has become one of the most developed cities in the nation.

Explorandes has policies that foster the development of sustainable tourism in Peru. To support the local economies where we work, we hire local workers and service suppliers and buy local products and services, which also helps reduce our carbon footprint related to the transport of goods. We also focus on developing new products and businesses that involve rural communities.

Our company uses organic, biodegradable and environmentally-friendly products, and we substitute conventional equipment and materials with others that are reusable. For example, we stopped using plastic bottles and use a minimum of plastic bags, choosing cloth bags as much as possible. We stopped using batteries altogether and now exclusively use solar-powered equipment on our tours. And in our offices, we make efficient use of minimal electricity. Explorandes sorts and disposes of all our waste responsibly, in our offices and in the field. We also participate in tree planting campaigns, and clean up roads, rivers and lakes with collaborating companies and organizations.

Explorandes staff participates in social projects in surrounding communities, to help ensure their support of and involvement in sustainable tourism. We continually collaborate with the Natural Protected Area Service, the Ministry of Culture, the Regional Directorate of Culture and various tourist associations to improve sustainability on the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu.
