Domtar’s Support for the Environment is on Paper
[PDF - 346 KB]

Even in this age of virtual communication, paper still plays a large role in our daily lives -- in the United States, approximately 97 millions tons of paper are used each year, for an average of nearly 650 pounds per person -- so the decision by Domtar, Inc. to produce paper with pulp harvested from sustainably managed forests was an important one. An industry leader in North America, Domtar has set a new standard with EarthChoice, its line of papers that originates in forests certified according to the standards of the Forest Stewardship Council.

The Greening of Gibson: Prestigious Guitar Manufacturer Aims for Maximum Sustainability [En Español]
[PDF - 324 KB]

In the early 1990’s, Henry Juszkiewicz, CEO of Gibson Musical Instruments, was concerned about the increasing scarcity of mahogany available to manufacture the high-quality guitars for which his company was famous. Then he met Richard Donovan, chief of forestry for the Rainforest Alliance, who suggested that Gibson use only mahogany that had been certified as responsibly grown and harvested, so that the company could secure an ongoing supply of wood while helping to conserve forestlands.

Conserving the Lands, Culture and Economy of Europe’s Cork Producing Regions
[PDF - 253 KB]

The trends toward synthetic bottle stoppers is endangering one of Western Europe’s last natural forest ecosystems, and along with it an economy and culture that has centered on cork harvesting for thousands of years. To preserve the environmental integrity of Portugal’s cork forests, protect an industry that supports some 100,000 cork workers and promote sustainable forest management in one of the Mediterranean’s biodiversity "hotpots," the Rainforest Alliance is working with cork producers across Spain and Portugal to conserve their endangered forests through Forest Stewardship Council certification.
