Conservation and Development (Conservación y Desarrollo)
ECUADOR -- Conservation and Development (CyD) is an independent, nonprofit, nongovernmental citizen's group, with headquarters in Quito, Ecuador. Its volunteer and paid staff include biologists, engineers, and lawyers. The group collaborates with government agencies and the private sector to promote sustainable development and the rational use of natural resources, and to raise public consciousness about resource management. CyD focuses on agriculture, ecotourism, and community-based projects. They work with several international organizations and are working with the government of Ecuador to develop a national policy for sustainable agricultural production.

Interamerican Foundation of Tropical Research (Fundación Interamericana de Investigación Tropical, FIIT)
GUATEMALA -- Interamerican Foundation of Tropical Research (FIIT), is a nonprofit research and environmental organization in Guatemala. It seeks mutually beneficial links between conservation and business to make both more sustainable. For more than six years, FIIT biologists studied the effects on biodiversity of different management regimes in coffee plantations. FIIT works with communities to improve the quality of life through environmental education, sustainable agriculture, hunting regulations, and the development of eco-friendly micro-businesses.

Fundación Natura Colombia
COLOMBIA -- Nature Foundation has conservation projects in several different regions of Colombia, including the Choco region of the Pacific Coast, the eastern cordillera of the Andes and the Colombian Amazon. The nonprofit group works with government agencies to support and enlarge the park system, with communities to improve management of natural resources, and with companies to reduce environmental impacts. Fundación Natura also conducts ecological research and develops conservation strategies.

MEXICO -- ProNatura Sur, a leading conservation group in southern Mexico, strives to protect cultural and biological diversity in a state that has record numbers of both. The group manages protected areas, conducts research, and helps indigenous peoples improve their farming and sustainably manage forest resources, such as bromeliads, which are used in religious ceremonies. As part of the Sustainable Agriculture Network, Pronatura Chiapas is working with coffee farmers around the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve.

SalvaNATURA
EL SALVADOR -- SalvaNATURA is a non-profit environmental organization, created in San Salvador in 1990. Its mission is to contribute to the recovery and conservation of the environment and natural resources, in order to achieve sustainable development and improve the quality of life in El Salvador and the Mesoamerican region. One of its main priorities is the conservation and management of natural areas, particularly El Imposible and Los Volcanes National Parks, both via cooperation agreements with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Through its innovative partnership with the Rainforest Alliance, the organization carries out a sustainable agriculture program for coffee producers and provides certification services to hundreds of coffee farms and processors.
