Nearly 1,000 Coffee Farms Earn Rainforest Alliance Certification
Despite the country's tumultuous history, Vietnam's coffee industry has grown exponentially during a short period of time. Today, it is second only to Brazil on the list of the world's top coffee exporters. Though the rapid rise in production has been a great economic boon, it has also put a terrific strain on Vietnam's environment.

A Sustainable Forestry Boom in Southeast Asia
Although Vietnam boasts a number of protected forests, the country's undeveloped lands remain under siege. To alleviate threats posed by illegal logging and unsustainable forestry, the Rainforest Alliance is implementing its multi-faceted responsible forestry program throughout the country. For example, we are collaborating with the Forest Sustainable Management Institute on a forest management certification standard appropriate for Vietnam's social, environmental and economic climate; conducting more chain-of-custody audits than nearly any other certifier; signing a contract with the nation's first Verification of Legal Origin client; and collaborating with IKEA, WWF, ScanCom and the Tropical Forest Trust to enhance the promotion of Forest Stewardship Council certification in Vietnam.

 Conserving Natural Resources in Vietnam
Under the guidance of Peter Sprang -- who first joined the Rainforest Alliance nearly a decade ago as a volunteer -- and Pham Tuong Vinh -- who has been leading our agro-forestry projects in Vietnam for the past six months -- the Rainforest Alliance is changing Vietnam's approach to coffee production.
