Remote audits in the RA 2020 Program
As you know, Rainforest Alliance announced that all supply chain audits for the RA 2020 program conducted between 1st July 2021 and 30th June 2022 will be done remotely. In the meantime, RA has been closely monitoring the development of the Covid19 pandemic and we realize that potentially not all of the farm transition audits will be able to be conducted onsite in all countries come July. Therefore, we will publish a policy on remote audits for the RA 2020 transition audits in the first half of May 2021. This policy document seeks to provide CHs and CBs a framework to determine whether a remote audit is acceptable and if so, how CHs and CBs can best arrange it. The policy will be effective from 1st July 2021. In addition, we will also publish an updated Remote Auditing Policy which can be used as a guideline for remote audits.
Pilots of 2020 Rainforest Alliance Standard
Continuing the initiative to Pilot the 2020 RA Standard, a number of countries have recently had audits, and some are planned before July 2021. In Nicaragua 4 audits have been conducted and 1 is still pending. In Malawi there is a tea farm and group of smallholders who will undergo a pilot audit in May. In Sri Lanka we are working with a group of tea smallholders, who are planning their pilot audit in June. Also, in Indonesia there is a cocoa pilot audit planned in the coming month. These audits have all been conducted with different CBs. The process highlights different information that will be used by RA to improve and learn about implementation and the auditability of our Standard.
Soon we will soon be starting a new Early Implementer Pilot in banana crops as well as one focused on tools developed by RA for the Living Wage Topic both in Costa Rica. We have also conducted a mock-up audit on Assess & Address in cocoa in Ghana and 2 more will be conducted next month in tea Malawi and coffee Ethiopia.
If you want to know more about any of these projects, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org using the country title – Early Implementers RA or Mock-up audits RA in the subject line
