CB Training in November
Currently, RA staff are being trained on the new standard so that this knowledge can be disseminated further to Certification Bodies and Certificate Holders. Our field teams and training networks in country will be responsible to train CHs. S&A staff will be responsible to train CBs. The first high level training for CBs will take place over 10 sessions from 16th – 27th November 2020. There will be a 2 hour session each morning CEST time in English and a 2 hour session each morning CST time in Spanish. Please save these dates for your lead trainers. Further information on the sessions and preparation needed will be sent in October.
New Rainforest Alliance 2020 Certification Program
As you know RA recently launched the new 2020 Certification Program.
As part of this, we have published a series of one-sheet documents to further clarify some of the concepts in our new Standards and how they changed as compared to the current UTZ and Rainforest Alliance Certification programs. Please find here the ones on:
Other one-sheets can be found on our website.
We have also updated our position paper on the Assess-and-Address approach for child labor, forced labor, discrimination and workplace violence and harassment. This document is more extensive than the one-sheet on Human Rights and describes also the vision and position of RA on these topics. Similarly, there is an updated Living Wage position paper, which clarifies further the vision and position of RA on Living Wage.
How to navigate the transition period to the 2020 Certification Program
We’re excited to share a useful new tool with you that will make it easier to understand the steps that current Rainforest Alliance and UTZ Certificate Holders need to take to transition to the new Rainforest Alliance 2020 Certification Program.
The Transition Tool provides an online, step-by-step interpretation of the Transition Rules document for specific scenarios, based on the type of certification(s) the organization currently holds. In a few clicks and without need for a login, you can check what specific steps an organization must follow in the next three years to transition to the 2020 Certification Program and remain part of the Rainforest Alliance.
Certification Bodies will find this tool useful to understand what is required of your clients and what kind of audits (under the current certification program or the new one) you need to perform for them in 2021.
We plan to launch the tool in many more languages in the next few weeks.
Auditing against the social criteria of our current Standards
While we are in full swing launching the new certification program, it is important to remember that until June 30th, 2021, audits will still be executed against the current standards.
Due to the Covid-19 related developments, it is both more challenging to perform good audits against social criteria (e.g. due to some remote audits or audits with social distancing measures in place), while on the other hand it is even more important to ensure workers rights are still adhered to, especially during these times.
Therefore we would like to kindly remind you of the material available regarding auditing the social criteria of our UTZ and RA standards.
For current RA audits:
- Additional Social Auditing methods for Workplace Sexual and Psychological Harassment and Violence, version 1.5, July 2020
- Technical Module 4: Improved Livelihoods and Human Wellbeing, July 2017
- Online trainings Unit 4: Improved Livelihoods and Human Wellbeing
For current UTZ audits:
- Guidance document UTZ Good Auditing Practices, version 1.0, August 2017 (also available in SP, PT, FR)
