In January 2018, UTZ merged with the Rainforest Alliance to have a greater impact and be a better partner to the many stakeholders we work with. We’re working on a new Chain of Custody Standard to support this.
The Rainforest Alliance’s 2020 Chain of Custody Standard will contribute to the development of more sustainable supply chains. It aims to improve transparency and maintain traceability of Rainforest Alliance CertifiedTM products throughout the supply chain and ensure credibility of the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal. Through increased accountability, we aim to improve farmer livelihoods and landscape conservation.

We will publish the final version of our new Chain of Custody Standard in June 2020 as part of the 2020 Certification Program, with audits to this standard becoming mandatory in mid-2021.
A full public consultation was held from December 2018 to February 2019 to gather feedback and improve the first draft of the standard. Read a summary of feedback from the first round of stakeholder consultations.
The second round of public consultations was held from June 17 to August 31, 2019. In the coming months, the Rainforest Alliance will conduct additional research and field testing based on the second draft of the standard. The standard will be finalized and approved by the Rainforest Alliance Standards Committee and published in June 2020.
