Position summary:

The Prospect Research Associate, under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Individual Philanthropy and Senior Manager, Institutional Relations is responsible for the management of the Prospect Portfolio of individuals, foundations, government agencies, multilaterals and corporations, including for philanthropic gifts and cause marketing. The Prospect Research Associate is also responsible for vetting and risk analysis of potential new corporate partners.

Responsibilities:

  • To manage the Prospect portfolio including research profiles and cultivation strategy, including identifying new prospects;
  • Identify and research new funding prospects, working collaboratively with Individual Philanthropy and Institutional Relations colleagues;
  • Collaborate with Individual Philanthropy in developing prospect plans for each donor portfolio (low, mid, and executive level);
  • Work with the Chief External Relations Officer and the General Counsel on risk analysis of potential new corporate partners;
  • Share research profiles with Development colleagues and Leadership;
  • Maintain a comprehensive prospect research program to identify, evaluate, and recommend individual and institutional donor prospects through research;
  • Create and maintain detailed donor and prospect profiles that include research and analysis of biographical, philanthropic, professional, and financial information for use by the development department, executive team, and the board of directors;
  • Generate detailed events attendee briefs in preparation for each Rainforest Alliance fundraising, cultivation and stewardship events;
  • Assist in logistics for fundraising events as needed;
  • Assist with database maintenance and reporting related to donor coding, prospecting, and moves management.

Qualifications:

  • College degree required;
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in non-profit fundraising with an emphasis on prospect research preferred;
  • Experience utilizing common online philanthropic research tools such as LexisNexis, NOZA, Foundation Center, Research Point, and/or Relationship Science preferred;
  • Evidence of discreet judgment and confidentiality with regard to sensitive donor information;
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, familiarity with conducting internet research;
  • Experience with Salesforce, Blackbaud or similar donor database preferred.

Salary:

Commensurate with experience.
