Position summary:

The Global Marketing Director will lead the Global Marketing Department within the Markets portfolio, providing strategic leadership to effectively communicate the organization’s work in the market, grow market demand, engage consumers with a Brand for Good and amplify the voice of clients – partner companies - working to communicate the impacts of their work with the organization. The Global Marketing Director unifies the Marketing Department with the Markets Portfolio and the Marketing Departments to ensure optimum awareness, consideration, conversion and engagement across client acquisition and retention lifecycles. The Director is responsible for development and implementation of Go-To-Market strategies, content, Marketing campaigns, narratives, messages, events and effective customer relationships to optimize the customer journey and the potential for impact for the Rainforest Alliance.  This position will manage a global team of eight, based in the Netherlands, UK and US.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Management

  • Develops and implements a global marketing strategy to advance the mission of the organization, increase awareness of sustainability interventions and drive improved consumer and client uptake of organization tools and resources;
  • Oversees, sets targets and monitors performance for the Global Marketing unit;
  • Builds a cohesive and unified Global Marketing team behind a concise Marketing vision and strategy;
  • Manages all budget, planning, staffing and continuity of services provided by Global Marketing team;
  • Oversees, sets targets and monitors performance for Cause Marketing team, ensuring optimum company engagement and participation for fundraising and “in kind” objectives; and
  • Works cross-divisionally to ensure Marketing and Cause Marketing plans are aligned across the organization by ensuring alignment with and between:
    • All other Markets departments: Market Transformation (Core Markets & Sectors), Tailored Programs, Market Excellence
    • Key customer interface divisions including Communications, Development and Advocacy.

Client Engagement

  • Oversees co-creation and activation of marketing initiatives with key clients and in core markets;
  • Ensures support of key clients to amplify the efficacy and voice of their efforts to market the work they do with the Rainforest Alliance;
  • Work with Markets Transformation (Sectors and Core Markets), Customer Success and Tailored Supply Chains to ensure effective client acquisition and business development marketing; and
  • Liaise with clients to manage and respond to external queries, as appropriate from a Global Marketing and Cause Marketing perspective.

Brand Building

  • Co-creates and provides strategic input to Consumer Engagement plans, supporting execution to build a Brand for Good;
  • Develops a Go-To-Market plan for the launch of the new certification program and certified seal;
  • Ensures the alignment of messages and Marketing strategy across the Markets portfolio; and
  • Represents the organization in public-facing events, conferences and workshops to amplify the voice and presence of the organization in key stakeholder venues.

Content Creation

  • Ensures development and implementation of best practice customer Go-To-Market plans and content from an acquisition and retention point of view;
  • Works with other Markets Departments to create effective engagement and acquisition content and tools to continue to strengthen the market potential of the organization and create value for clients through their Rainforest Alliance partnership;
  • Ensures clarity of performance and ambitions by distributing Marketing and Cause Marketing reports and best practices to support continuous improvement activities; and
  • Works collaboratively with Communications team and other departments to ensure marketing messages are unified and effective across all off-line and online channels.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or related field;
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, including 5 years of team management experience; demonstrating independent decision-making and high levels of responsibility in Marketing and brand-building - including creative marketing initiatives and partner co-creation;
  • Experience in B2B Marketing as well as direct to Consumer;
  • Experience in data driven Marketing, insights and market research, digital and technology;
  • Experience working in cross functional and matrix organizations, as well as managing and working in global teams;
  • Minimum five years direct line management experience- managing international, cross cultural teams;
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a time sensitive manner; including knowledge and experience of working with Agile and/or Lean methodologies;
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills, in multiple languages preferred; demonstrable experience of presenting at industry conferences and high-level meetings;
  • Knowledge, commitment to sustainability practices, environmental and social issues and experience of working to achieve mission impact in sustainable agriculture and forestry;
  • Working knowledge of international commodity supply chains, such as tea, coffee, cocoa, palm oil, fruits and forest products;
  • Ability to travel 30% per year, including internationally.

Salary:

Commensurate with experience.
