Position summary:

The Program Manager will support the Cultivate & Retail Lead in building and implementing a strategy and comprehensive certification program for herbs & spices, including the herbal infusion sector, rooibos tea sector as well as herbs and spices sector, globally.
As part of this, the Program Manager will work closely with other relevant departments especially Regions, Core Markets, Revenue Reporting & Innovation, Standards and Marketing to facilitate alignment with individual department plans.
The Program Manager will work closely with the certification program UEBT to institutionalize and further develop a Rainforest Alliance/UEBT partnership for herbal infusions and extend it to other crops.
The program manager will be the point of liaison for regional staff working with producers in her/his sectors. S/he will also support Core Markets in identifying and leveraging concrete market opportunities with brands and retailers that accelerate farm impact. In addition, s/he will directly manage corporate accounts of supply chain actors that are key to the success of the certification program.
As necessary, the program manager will engage with key multi-stakeholder platforms to strengthen the impact and visibility of the programs.


  • Support the Cultivate & Retail Lead in evaluating impact as well as business plans for cultivate sectors;
  • (Further) build and implement strategies for the herbal infusion, rooibos tea, herbs & spices sectors;
  • Develop (further) and manage certification program for these sectors, including working with relevant departments on traceability services and revenue mechanisms. Ensure the program is well integrated in the organization and part of individual departments plans;
  • Develop (further) a partnership with an external certification scheme;
  • Where necessary, facilitate support in origin for producers to ensure credible certified supply;
  • Drive opportunities with key accounts and multi-stakeholder platforms to advance sector strategies and work closely with Core Markets to continue to identify other market-facing opportunities;
  • Engage with supply chain actors that are key to the success of the program; and
  • Manage key sector stakeholders and platforms on behalf of the markets team e.g. the Sustainable Spice Initiative.


  • Master degree in business economics; natural resource management; sustainability management; business administration or related field;
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience;
  • Good knowledge of sustainable agricultural supply chains;
  • Collaborative and solid record building and working in teams;
  • Proven experience in successfully managing corporate accounts;
  • Strong project management skills;
  • Strategic and analytical thinker; and
  • Strong communication skills.
