Since its inception thirty years ago, Cuenca del Plata has formed a friendly and supportive relationship with the local village of Fortín M`borore, an indigenous Mbyá Guaraní community. We have an annual agreement based on the principles of fair trade that aims to ensure that the benefits of tourism also extend to the community, improving their quality of life and their participation in sustainable development. We organize regular visits to the community and locals are expert guides for our guests, sharing information on their hunting practices, the making of their crafts, songs and beliefs, and they lead walks on ancient mountain trails. Moreover, our agreement defines proper behavior for tourists when entering the community.
At Turismo Cuenca del Plata, we adhere to:
- The objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, established by the General Assembly of the United Nations. In particular, we make significant efforts to comply with Objective No. 13 "Climate Action: adopt urgent measures to combat climate change and its effects". We have an annual campaign in the schools of Puerto Iguazú, to develop environmental leaders among local youth. During 2018, we will adopt new goals to make the company carbon neutral by 2030.
- The United Nations Global Compact. We are committed to submitting an annual compliance report on human rights, labor standards, the environment, and the fight against corruption.
