Globally, sustainability standards and certification are transforming the way businesses operate. As a framework for change, certification delivers real business value, including:
- Improved yields and quality of agricultural crops and forest products;
- Improved conditions for workers and relationships with local communities;
- Reduced operational and reputational risk; and
- Access to markets and customers.
Sustainable Agriculture Certification
The Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Agriculture Standard is used to certify farms and producer groups involved in crop and cattle production.
Since 1989, the Rainforest Alliance has offered auditing and certification services managed and implemented from distinct business units, most recently RA-Cert. As of October 1, 2018, the Rainforest Alliance transitioned its RA-Cert business, including all related auditing services, as well as the personnel responsible for audit design, evaluation, and certification/verification issuance, to its long-time partner organization, Nature Economy and People Connected (NEPCon).
NEPCon is a non-profit organization based in Copenhagen, Denmark, and a global network. It has been a partner with the Rainforest Alliance since 1999 and has been working in the sustainability certification and auditing field since 1996.
