Position Summary: 

The Fundraising Copywriter will be responsible for developing fundraising messaging, primarily for individual donor audiences. S/he will work closely with Development’s Membership, Major Gifts and Special Events teams to draft fundraising and marketing copy for materials including letters, mail packages, proposals, event invitations, emails, webpages and social media.

Responsibilities: 
  • Work with Development teams to develop and execute annual fundraising strategy;
  • Conceptualize, research and draft fundraising copy for letters, emails, webpages and social media, including cultivation, solicitation and stewardship pieces and acknowledgements;
  • Develop engaging marketing materials for events, trips, mail packages, program profiles and fact sheets;
  • Draft and edit grant proposals, reports and programmatic updates for individuals and small family foundations;
  • Propose design layouts for mail packages, emails and webpages;
  • Write and test copy for search engine advertisements;
  • Identify and develop messaging strategies for new audience segments;
  • Develop copy variations for A/B testing;
  • Assist in the analysis and reporting of results; and
  • Edit other written materials, including proposals and reports, to ensure accuracy of information and detect errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar and syntax.
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or equivalent education and experience;
  • 4 years experience in professional work environment;
  • At least 3 years experience in fundraising communications and professional copywriting; demonstrated experience with writing copy for fundraising materials is required;
  • Strong sense of design and experience working with designers;
  • Proven track record in strategic communications work;
  • Strong project management and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated interest in conservation, corporate responsibility and/or international development issues;
  • Superior written, verbal, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills;
  • Flexibility and willingness to work independently on a wide range of tasks and projects; and
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
