Position Summary: 

The Institutional Giving Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Institutional Giving department to raise money from foundation, corporate, government and multilateral funding sources for Rainforest Alliance programs. S/he will research prospective donors, send and track donor materials, acknowledge and track donor gifts, and provide support to program and other development staff in meetings and interactions with donors. S/he will also provide general administrative support to the Institutional Giving team.

Responsibilities: 
  • Research foundation, corporate, government and multilateral funding sources for Rainforest Alliance programs and general support. For identified prospects, work with Institutional Giving team to determine program matches and compile prospect lists for new programs and projects;
  • Work with the Institutional Giving team to maintain Luminate constituent relationship management (CRM) system, ensuring that all potential and current donors are tracked in an efficient manner;
  • Write grant acknowledgments and communications to staff announcing grants, including a summary of project goals and activities;
  • Send, file and track letters of inquiry, concept papers, proposals, and reports;
  • Schedule and confirm prospect meetings, create profiles, and assemble informational packets;
  • Assist in meeting follow up, including compiling meeting minutes, entering contact information into Luminate, drafting/sending thank you letters, and entering follow-up activities into Luminate;
  • Liaise with Finance and Accounting departments, in addition to other development areas and programs to ensure that gifts are properly acknowledged, coded and recorded;
  • Track grant agreements and contracts; work with Development, Legal and program staff to ensure that contracts are processed and recorded; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • 1-2 years of professional experience;
  • Must have excellent writing skills, including ability to write to different audiences;
  • Excellent research skills;
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Experience in donor base database software strongly preferred;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Experience/knowledge of international environment and/or community development issues preferred;
  • Must be detail oriented, resourceful, and able to work under tight deadlines; ability to follow directions and work independently; and
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred.
