The guide provides helpful tips, videos and detailed instructions on these specific areas: monitoring energy, waste, water, buying local, fair employment, self-catering and communications. The Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative (HCMI): The HCMI is a methodology to enable any hotel anywhere in the world to measure and report on the carbon footprint of a hotel stay or meeting. It was developed by the International Tourism Partnership, World Travel & Tourism Council, KPMG and a working group of 23 global hotel companies and is used by over 17,000 hotels worldwide. Understanding your carbon footprint can help you understand your environmental impacts, and start to reduce them, as well as enable you to report on or offset your emissions. This website provides more information on the HCMI and webinar recordings explaining the initiative, as well as the methodology and an Excel calculation tool that are available free of charge.
