If you’re an operator or trader selling coffee and cocoa (or derived products like chocolate) to EU markets, or exporting them from the EU, then under the EUDR you need to prove they are deforestation free.
By 30 December 2026, you need to show that these products do not originate from land deforested after December 31, 2020. You’ll need to provide evidence to the national competent authorities of your due diligence process, including relevant information about your supply chain such as geodata and risk assessments.
Our certification program is equipped with a range of tools and systems—like our innovative automated risk assessment maps for deforestation—that can provide companies with complementary information needed to support EUDR compliance.

Should investment in EUDR compliance be viewed as a regulatory cost or a driver of long-term business value? Christian Hohlfeld, Public Affairs Lead Europe, contributes to this article on how investments in traceability and supplier support can strengthen supply chain resilience beyond compliance.

Colombia is emerging as one of the coffee sector’s best-prepared countries for EUDR compliance, supported by strong traceability systems and sector coordination. However, smallholders and Indigenous growers may still struggle with the regulation’s technical and legal requirements. Rainforest Alliance highlights the growing importance of traceability and compliance tools.

In this feature, Rainforest Alliance is cited in a report revealing that grasslands, wetlands, and other non-forest ecosystems are being converted to agriculture up to four times faster than forests, while major policy gaps, including the EU Deforestation Regulation, leave many of these vital landscapes unprotected.

In this op-ed, Rainforest Alliance CEO Santiago Gowland makes the case for credible third-party certification as companies navigate new EU rules on environmental claims, positioning Rainforest Alliance as a trusted framework for verification, traceability, and compliance.

In this feature, Rainforest Alliance’s Public Affairs Lead for Europe, Christian Hohlfeld, weighs in on the coffee sector’s readiness, highlighting advances in traceability while warning that persistent barriers still leave many smallholders behind. Rainforest Alliance also emerges as a trusted expert on compliance and implementation.
