What Does Rainforest Alliance Certified Mean?
Last updated September 8, 2025
When you see our little green frog on your favorite foods and beverages—like coffee, tea, cocoa, and bananas—you can feel confident that these products help build a better world for people and nature. Our world-renowned little green frog seal means that farms and companies support healthy forests, better farmer livelihoods, human rights, good environmental practices, as well as climate resilience.

Rainforest Alliance Certification
Sustainability isn’t just about the environment—it’s about people too. Here are the four impact areas of our Sustainable Agriculture Certification:

Forests and biodiversity
Keeps forests standing and enhances biodiversity

Climate
Promotes practices that fight climate change and prepare farmers for climate events

Human Rights
Provides tools to help identify and address child labor, forced labor, poor working conditions, low wages, and gender inequality

Livelihoods
Improves smallholder business practices and supports access to more rewarding markets
What does it take to become Rainforest Alliance Certified?
A lot! Farms and companies have to meet a set of rigorous requirements (known as a standard) to earn certification.
Our Sustainable Agriculture Certification is based on the Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Agriculture Standard.
Independent auditors periodically visit to check that farms and companies are meeting the requirements of the standard. When they do, farms and companies are awarded certification—and only then may they display our little green frog on their products.
What crops does the Rainforest Alliance certify?
We have a strong focus on popular commodities like coffee, tea, bananas, and cocoa, but you can also find our frog on everything from orange juice to cardamom to flowers (Note: We certify ingredients, so if you see a chocolate bar with our seal on it, for example, only the cocoa is certified.)
