Shortages in the supply of certified crops can occur due to various reasons, at different stages in the supply chain. For these cases, the Rainforest Alliances has set up a policy for temporary shortages (i.e., lasting less than six months) in supply of certified crops that result in a product failing to meet the requirements to use the Rainforest Alliance certification seal. The Rainforest Alliance’s objective in these cases is twofold: to create transparency for the affected consumers and to ensure that farmers do not suffer from a temporary decrease in demand.
