EUDR: green light, red tape
In an interview for Global Coffee Report, Fanny Gauttier, Public Affairs Lead at the Rainforest Alliance, outlines the consequences of the delay to the EU Deforestation Regulation deadline.
If you’re an operator or trader selling coffee and cocoa (or derived products like chocolate) to EU markets, or exporting them from the EU, then under the EUDR you need to prove they are deforestation free.
By 30 December 2026, you need to show that these products do not originate from land deforested after December 31, 2020. You’ll need to provide evidence to the national competent authorities of your due diligence process, including relevant information about your supply chain such as geodata and risk assessments.
Our certification program is equipped with a range of tools and systems—like our innovative automated risk assessment maps for deforestation—that can provide companies with complementary information needed to support EUDR compliance.
