A Sustainable Future for the United States' Coal Country

President Trump just signed legislation to repeal the Stream Protection Act, which protects 52,000 acres of Appalachian forestland and 6,000 miles of streams from coal mining.

The forests of Appalachia—one of the most biologically diverse regions in the temperate world—are now in danger of total destruction.  Although the coal industry provides jobs in an economically depressed region of our country, there is a better alternative: sustainable forestry. Not only is it a viable economic alternative to coal mining—it supports thriving forests, clean water and air, and healthy communities.
