As Chief Regional Officer for the Rainforest Alliance, Ria Stout leads the organization’s Asia Pacific, Africa and Latin America teams, providing strategic direction and operational oversight to programs that support the organization’s certification systems and community-centered approach to sustainable economic development in high-priority landscapes.
Stout and her team focus on promoting sustainable land use, building local leadership capacity and partnerships, and linking sustainable producers to responsible companies. Stout, who is based in Guatemala City, Guatemala, joined the Rainforest Alliance in 2004.
Prior to working for the Rainforest Alliance, Stout was a co-founder of the Fundación Utz Kapeh, which later evolved to UTZ; in early 2018, UTZ merged with the Rainforest Alliance. Stout holds a Master’s in Social Anthropology and Sociology of Non-Western Societies from the University of Amsterdam and a degree in journalism from the Academy of Journalism in Zwolle, the Netherlands.
